government.london is an information portal. It signposts the official services of Greater London and its 33 local authorities — it does not answer enquiries, take payments or process applications on their behalf. Use the coordinates below to contact the body that actually runs the service you need. If your question is about bins, Council Tax, parking, planning or schools, that is your borough council, not City Hall. If it is about the Tube, buses, the Congestion Charge or the ULEZ, that is Transport for London. City Hall and the Greater London Authority handle city-wide strategy, the Mayor's office and the London Assembly.

Getting to City Hall
City Hall sits on the north side of the Royal Victoria Dock in the Royal Docks, Newham. The nearest stations are Custom House (on the Elizabeth line and DLR) and Royal Victoria (DLR), both a short walk away; the Emirates Air Line cable car and Thames Clipper river piers also serve the area. City Hall is open to the public Monday to Thursday 8:30am–6pm and Friday 8:30am–5:30pm.
Emergency & essential numbers
In a life-threatening emergency — a crime in progress, a fire, or someone seriously hurt — always call 999. The other lines below cover non-emergency police, urgent medical help, power cuts, gas leaks and anonymous crime reporting. All are national numbers and work from any London phone.
If you smell gas
Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. Do not turn electrical switches on or off, and open doors and windows to let the gas escape. Textphone users can call 0800 371 787.
Reach your borough council
Your council handles the services you use most: bin collections, Council Tax, parking permits and fines, planning applications, school admissions, housing and licensing. There are 33 local authorities in Greater London — the 32 boroughs plus the City of London Corporation — and each has its own contact team.
